GUILLERMINA

Taking as its starting point the story between a white boy and his nanny, a black woman named Guillermina, this true story, set in Havana in the 1940s, recalls the happiest years of a childhood marked by Guillermina’s presence. However, as the story unfolds, it begins to transcend the events being narrated, taking the audience to unexpected places where they will have to confront and question what they hear and observe.

AÍDA ESTHER BUENO SARDUY. PhD “Cum Laude” in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Complutense University of Madrid. She did her doctoral thesis on the leadership of women priestesses in the Xangô priestesses in the Xangô of Recife, Brazil. She specialized in studies of African diaspora cultures in Latin America and the Caribbean and interethnic relations (Center for Afro-Asian Studies, Candido Mendes University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). She has been coordinator of the seminar “Afro-Latin American and Caribbean music and religiosity” belonging to the Specialization “Afro-Latin American and Caribbean Studies”, Academic Program 2020 of the Virtual Training Space of the CLACSO Network of Postgraduate Studies in Social Sciences. She is a documentary filmmaker. She develops the audiovisual project Referencias biográficas: afrocentrando y emancipando la mirada de las mujeres negras, to which belong the pieces: Guillermina, Rezadeira, and Anna Borges do sacramento.
